A Latvian 18-year-old pianist Vestard Shimkus has won several weighty international competitions. Estonian public saw him in February 2003 when he was on tour with Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
“Shimkus has got everything that one needs in order to give an impressive performance on the piano: effortless mastery of the instrument, energy, joy with which he plunges into performance. Nothing gives an impression of “hard and tedious work”, everything is natural and obvious”. (Ia Remmel, Sirp, 21.02.2003).

The repertoire of Trio Mediaeval includes medieval English, French and Norwegian vocal music and as a counterweight, also the works of contemporary composers. The most exciting work of the concert is perhaps the premiere of so called Messe de Tournai that dates back to 13th –14th century. The Trio’s CD Words of the Angel, on which also the programme performed in Kuressaare was based, received maximum points in magazine Stereophile and was nominated the best album of the month in April 2002.
"These three women have astonishingly beautiful voices, with individual timbres that nonetheless mingle seamlessly... The Trio Mediaeval sings with feeling, depth, and soul" (Stereophile Recording Of The Month, April 2002; *****)
