The opening concert of the 12th Kuressaare Chamber Music Days is held in honour of the greatest genius of the music history - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The year 2006 has been announced to be the Mozart-year due to the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth and it is only befitting to begin the festival with his beautiful chamber music. Mozart has written music in almost all genres, chamber music being no exception. The music of the opening concert has not been performed often in Estonia, therefore the concert will be exciting for confirmed Mozart fans as well as for the people who are just getting acquainted with the music of the genius composer. It is performed by the best Estonian musicians in whose repertoire Mozart’s music has a very special place.

VISIONS
Saxophone Quartet n(ex)t (Latvia)

Ilze Paegle (soprano saxophone)
Inga Meijere (alto & baritone saxophone)
Arnita Akmentina (tenor saxophone)
Kristine Avota (baritone & alto saxophone)

Programme:
Dubra, Meijere, Françaix, d’Rivera, Rota, Florenzo, Gershwin, Zarinsh, Wonder, Presley, Garland etc.

Four women in love with the saxophone have given an equivocal name to their ensemble - "n(ex)t". The words "ex" and "next" symbolize mostly the group’s repertoire which involves both the past and the future. From the past they prefer the so-called timeless classical composers, for example Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi. Contemporary music or so-called future music is represented by the best compositions of academic saxophone music from the 20ieth century as well as by well-known and loved jazz music. The versatility of the ensemble is proven by the fact that it has successfully performed at the Valmiera Old Music Festival as well as at the Riga Jazz Festival "Rîgas ritmi". The performances of "n(ex)t" are spiced up with a show full of surprises that gives the quartet a unique and unforgettable image.

Arild Ronsen (tenor)
Daniel Óskar Danielsson (basso)

Quartet Quattro Stagioni was founded in 1987 and since then it has been gathering fame and been invited to perform all over the world. In addition to many European countries it has also performed in the USA and Middle East. It is also not the first time for the ensemble to perform in Estonia as it has already vowed our audience as the main guest performer at the Pärnu Choir Festival in 2002. The quartet’s name means "four seasons" and it gives a very good idea of the ensemble’s repertoire which includes music from different eras and different places. The ensemble consists of male voices that are not that typical of a male quartet - the highest of the voices belongs to the masterful counter tenor Carl Hogset. The vocal ensemble has released three CD-s, the last of them in 2004.
In Kuressaare Quattro Stagioni performs a colourful programme where one can hear medieval and reneissance music and Norwegian vocal music from the 19-20th century.

"CASTAÑUELAS CONTEMPORANEAS": Spanish rhythms and flamenco

Bélen Cabanes (concert castanets and dance, Spain)
Andreas Maria Germek (guitar, Austria)

The united duo of Spain and Austria and catchy flamenco rhythms bring exotic atmosphere and fire to the tender Nordic nights of August.
Bélen Cabanes whose home is close to Barcelona has worked with many renowned choreographers and performed together with many dance groups, for example she took part in the successful world concert tour of the group “Compania de Baile Espanol Rafael Aguilar”. She is especially interested in synthesizing traditional flamenco and modern dance. In addition Bélen Cabanes is a virtuoso castanet player – it is very rare to hear castanets as solo instruments in Estonia. The duo guitarist Andreas Maria Germek was born in Austria but he has spent the last 14 years mostly in Spain focusing on the secrets of the local guitar playing. The duo has performed together for already 10 years and during this time they have inspired many music and dance lovers.
