Andres Paas, the main organizer and artistic director of the festival as well as the laureate of the Estonian Cultural Endowment’s regional award Kultuuripärl (Pearl of Culture) will traditionally open Kuressaare Chamber Music Days, as much awaited by the audience. As an intricate and romantically passionate musician Andres Paas has performed a remarkable part of top chamber music throughout the years together with several ensemble musicians. This time he will perform together with two renowned young Estonian musicians residing abroad – violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and cellist Silver Ainomäe, who have gained a lot of recognition on several reputable stages all over the world. Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, residing in Great Britain, and Silver Ainomäe who resides in the USA are both laureates of several international competitions and also renowned solo and chamber musicians.
The program of the opening concert is colourful and expressive. In addition to the piano trios by Smetana and Schubert they will also play the delightful Adagio and Allegro by Schumann and the hot-tempered Gypsy Rhapsody Tzigane by Ravel.

One of the best-known and interesting young Estonian flute players, Oksana Sinkova, has won more than twelve competitions and she feels comfortable playing different music styles and plays well music by composers of different eras. She has performed in various countries together with many instrumentalists and as a soloist with symphony orchestras in Estonia and abroad.
Estonian younger generation’s guitar player Jelena Ossipova has participated in several master classes and international guitar festivals in Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, etc., and she is an awaited musician in numerous concert venues.
At the concert, the duo of Estonian musicians takes its audience to an exciting sea voyage by playing ravishing music by composers from exotic countries like Spain, Argentina, America, South Korea, etc.

Wojciech Waleczek is an acclaimed Polish pianist known for his non-compromising approach to piano performance. He has been pursuing a robust concert career playing symphonic concerts as well as solo and chamber recitals worldwide.
He has won several prizes at numerous international competitions, including competition “Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam” for pianists in Poland (1996), 7th F. Liszt International Piano Competition "Premix Mario Zanfi" in Parma, Italy (2000), 3rd F. Liszt International Piano Competition in Wroclaw, Poland (2005), 6th International Piano Competition in Palermo, Italy (2005), etc. He has been given scholarships granted by the foundations and Polish institutions and prizes awarded by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture of The Republic of Poland for his outstanding achievements. In addition to classical piano music there is also film music and contemporary music in his repertoire.
The concert program in Kuressaare is full of romantic feelings and passion. In addition to the compositions by great masters of Romantic-era such as Schumann, Chopin and Liszt piano music by the 19th and 20th century Polish composers Paderewski and Szymanowski will be performed.

Hungarian vocal sextet UniCum Laude was founded in 1994 and it has an important place among other similar vocal groups. The ensemble with a particularly warm and beautiful harmony of tone has received top marks from international music critics and they have captured the hearts of audiences in many countries. In 2010 UniCum Laude was elected to represent the European Capital of Culture Pécs in Hungary.
The sextet in its own name, UniCum Laude reflects its program policy that is based on the rarely heard, unique pieces from the wide layers of the history of music. The repertoire of the group includes renaissance sacred music as well as contemporary modern music or arrangements of evergreen pop music songs. UniCum Laude has released three CDs and in earlier times also some cassette tapes. The Hungarian Radio has recorded and transmitted their program for several times, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) transmitted their concerts in 2008 and 2010. Hungarian Television made a portrait film of the sextet in 1998. The group has given concerts in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Iceland and Taiwan.
The varied program of the concert includes early music, popular spirituals and gospel, among others.

Programme: Tarantellas, Villanelles and Songs of Naples

In the series "Exotic promenades" one of world’s music scene’s rare pearls vocal-instrumental group Neapolis Ensemble from Italy will give an exclusive concert in Kuressaare.
The hot-tempered concert of this ensemble from the South is a so-called overview of Neapolitan music traditions that is a blend of so-called cultural and folk music.
Their repertoire includes enthralling villanelles, tarantellas and songs in opera buff style by Willaert, de Lassus, Pergolesi and others, in Neapolitan, connecting classical music with folk music. The ensemble uses both classical and folk music instruments such as tambourine, mandolin and guitar to revive the old Neapolitan atmosphere and sound. The ensemble of these instruments give the music the Neapolitan Ensemble plays its characteristic Neapolitan lightness.
Neapolis Ensemble has performed in many countries and at numerous prestigious events and important music festivals from Moscow to Buenos Aires. The ensemble has recorded three popular CDs that were released in cooperation with a reputable record company Harmonia Mundi.

Vilnius String Quartet is an ensemble with awe-inspiring number of years they have been active for. Throughout the years it has been one of the most well-known and active chamber ensembles in Lithuania. The quartet, now spanning more than four decades, has been awarded with several prizes including Dr. Antanas Razma Prize (USA), Lithuanian National Arts and Culture Prize (2004) and Baltic Assembly Prize (2005), among others. The quartet gives around 80 concerts each year in Europe, Central and South Americas, Asia and Africa. They have toured in 50 countries throughout the world. Vilnius String Quartet has represented Lithuania at numerous international festivals and appears regularly at world’s top concert halls, such as the Merkin Hall in New York, Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Musikverein in Vienna, Mozarteum in Salzburg and many others. Discography of the quartet is vast and ample including about 50 albums.
In Kuressaare they will play music for quartets by Mozart, Ciurlionis and Schulhoff. They will also pay homage to Estonian composer Heino Eller by playing his cycle Five Pieces for String Quartet No. 5.
