The tireless main organizer of Kuressaare Chamber Music Days and a recent laureate of prestigious Hendrik Krumm Culture Prize, pianist Andres Paas has charmed the audience performing in different ensembles in already nineteen festivals. “What is special about this festival is that the renowned pianist and Artistic Director of the festival also always performs himself at the festival. The concerts where he performs are often some of the most interesting of the whole festival, and of high quality.” (Ia Remmel, Sirp, 14.8.2014).
At this year’s opening concert Paas will perform together with The New Russian Quartet, who makes its Estonian debut. The string quartet is an awaited guest in many European and Asian renowned music festivals and concert stages. The ensemble has also collaborated with such prominent musicians as violinist Shlomo Mintz, soprano Jessye Norman, pianists Boriss Berezovski, Nikolai Petrov, viola virtuoso Juri Bashmet, etc.
The quartet will play D minor String Quartet by Mozart, and together with Andres Paas piano quintets by Franck and Rääts will be performed.

For the first time in the history of the festival the programme also includes mandolin as a concert instrument. The unique mandolin quartet Classica Pizzicata from Napoli in Southern Italy will perform. The quartet consists of three mandolins and a guitar. Their concert Napoli Antica will take the audience to a journey to old Napoli. All the members of the quartet are valued and experienced musicians and music teachers who have played in many various ensembles and orchestras. Their performances have taken them all over Europe as well as to Israel, Japan and the USA.

Saxophone Quartet SaxEst is one of the oldest chamber ensembles in Estonia that has continuously given concerts since 1999 when it was established. During its sixteen years of existence it has given numerous concerts all over Estonia as well as in Europe and the USA. They have also recorded two albums and have collaborated with several renowned Estonian soloists and ensembles. The repertoire of SaxEst is varied, including baroque and classicism transcriptions. They have played original pieces of music by various composers from all over the world, Estonian and world’s temporary music, jazz and soul music. The quartet made its debut at Kuressaare Chamber Music Days in 2008. This summer the quartet will perform with a new programme and partially also with new members.

Apollo5 is a British a cappella ensemble gaining more and more popularity and acclaim in the world. The ensemble with five eminent and charismatic members has a busy concert schedule and is an awaited guest in many renowned concert halls and music festivals in Europe and the USA. Apollo5 leads master classes and various concert series in the framework of Young Leaders Programme and it works with children and adults with special needs through Surrey Arts. Since 2014 the ensemble publishes its musical arrangements with one of the world’s leading music publishing companies Edition Peters.
The quintet takes the audience to a discovery journey full of music. The varied and interesting programme comprises sacred choral music, spirituals, jazz standards, and arrangements of pop music.

Flamenco performance "Passion of Andalucia. Vol 2" Spain

Also this year the audience has a chance to see and listen to Flamenco Jerez – a Spanish flamenco group which in addition to being the star of the world’s flamenco scene was also very popular in the last festival in Kuressaare in 2014. This time they will have a new programme and new brilliant artists. The show full of southern heat and passion is called “Passion of Andalucía. Vol 2“ where they continue to introduce the colorful and exciting art of flamenco. Guitar music, human voice and dance combined introduce the life, longing and nostalgy in Andalucía. The spectacle is mysterious, passionate and seductive – the stage is set alight with rhythmic improvisational bursts of glorious improvisation and virtuoso flamenco technique.

Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta








Programme:
Arensky, Grieg, Tchaikovsky

The final concert will be given by the string ensemble of Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta which debuted in 2012 in the South-American tour of the Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta. Since then they have performed in numerous Estonian music festivals, in the United Kingdom, Israel, Greece, Italy, Iran, etc. At the concert “The portrait of Tchaikovsky” in Kuressaare string music by A. Arenski, E. Grieg and P. Tchaikovsky will be played. The violin soloist and concertmaster of the orchestra is Maano Männi who is also the concertmaster of Vaasa City Orchestra.
Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta made its debut at Kuressaare Chamber Music Days already in 2013 charming the audience with its emotional performance.
